When Spotify released their answer to Clubhouse with Greenroom, there wasn’t an immediate jump from Clubhouse for the cannabis industry. The first days there were no cannabis groups or room to be found on the app. That changed when The Cannabis Maker Podcast filled the gap. In Greenroom, people can not make groups (clubs) with this first initial rollout but they have the ability to make rooms under other groups. The First Cannabis Greenroom is in the group Business Casual.
The first ones to integrate and become familiar with the app will have the advantage of collecting more gems (awards from listeners when you say something compelling), a stronger presence (more following), and will get integrations and recommendations from the app first (Spotify will send recommendations based on the rooms you are in on what music, podcasts, or artists you may like). Also, they have the ability to have input and feedback before everyone else and the updates will be optimized based on their feedback. (Shake the phone to make the feedback trigger appear). Unlike Clubhouse, there is no gatekeeper to getting on the app, anyone can join the app and come into the rooms without having to wait for an invite from someone already on the app.
The First Cannabis Greenroom at the time of this release was running 37 hours straight. During the marathon, The Cannabis Maker Podcast released an episode while the Greenroom was live with Meirig Murray and Dr. Anna Schwabe Ph.D. Anna Schwabe Ph.D. is an educator with expertise in Cannabis genetics and biology with a Ph.D. from The University of Northern Colorado and was awarded the Deans’ Citation of Excellence and Outstanding Dissertation for her research on evaluating genotypic and phenotypic variation in Cannabis.
The consensus is that the accessibility and bugs that everyone wanted to be fixed in Clubhouse have been applied to Greenroom including having a chat feature within the rooms.
Greenroom is catching on quickly and has become a new horse in the audio-only app race. Let’s see if Facebook enters the race next!
